Netscape 4.51 Setup Instructions

Updated for new mail server.

  1. Open Netscape either from the icon on the desktop, or by clicking Start --> Programs --> Netscape Communicator --> Navigator.

  2. To make InterComm's website your homepage, Click on Edit, then Preferences. In the Home Page field, replace the existing website address with www.intercomm.com CLick OK to save the changes.

  3. If multiple people will be using Netscape see Step 4. Otherwise, click Communicator then Messenger. If this is the first time you have opened Messenger, a Mail and Newsgroup Setup wizar d will appear. If it does not appear, skip to Step 5.

    Click Next to begin. In the first field, enter your full name as you would like it to appear to other people. You may use capitals and spaces.

    In the second field, enter your email addrses. THis is listed at the top of your original paperwork. Your email address follows the form: UserID@Domain-name (UserID is the 3-8 letter name you chose when signing up.)

    In the third field, Outgoing Mail, enter 775.net Click Next.

    Under Mail Server User Name, type your UserID@Doamin-name.

    Type 775.net for the Incoming Mail server. Make sure POP3 is selected under Mail Server Type. Click Next.

    Type news.775.net for News Server. Make sure Port 119 is selected and do not select Secure.

    Click Finish. You are now finished and ready to send and receive email and news using Messenger. Please refer to Netscape's help files for information about using newsgroups.

  4. If you want to be able to check multiple email accounts or separate personal settings such as bookmarks between users, you can use the User Profile Manager. To open, click Start --> Programs --> Netscape Communicator --> Utilities --> User Profile Manager.

    Choose New to create a new profile. You can create as many profiles as you would like. Click Next. Enter your name and email address. Click Next.

    Type a name that will will symbolize this user. Click Next.

    Type 775.net for the Outgoing Mail server. Click Next.

    Type news.775.net under News Server. Port 119. Do not select Secure. Click Finish.

    Repeat Step 4 for each user. The next time Netscape is opened, the Profile Manager will prompt for the individual user.

  5. If the wizard does not appear automatically, click Edit --> Preferences.

    Fill in your name and your email address.

    Click Mail Servers. Delete any old server information. Click Add. Type 775.net next to Server Name. Choose POP3 under Server Type.

    Type your username under UserID@Doamin-name. Click the POP tab. Make sure Leave Messages on Server is not selected. Click OK.

    Type 775.net for the Outgoing Mail server. Click OK to finish.

    Use the New Msg and Get Msg buttons to send and receive email.
